Round 3 of Malaysia Speed Festival 2017 which will be held on the weekend of 20 – 21 May 2017 will feature an expanded schedule across two days which will include Round 1 of the MSF MegaLAP Time Attack Series, with a Retro Havoc BBQ Gathering in the evening.

This will be the fifth year of MegaLAP Time Attack, which features some of the quickest street cars in the country taking part. As the Malaysian tuning industry has moved towards European cars and less Japanese-make vehicles, a showdown is expected between the best cars and drivers of each side, to discover the fastest tuned-street car over a single flying lap of the Sepang International Circuit.

Some of the top cars expected to participate include the Mercedes AMG A45 of AHM Technik driven by Alif Hamdan, aiming for a sub-2m 30s laptime. “We were able to do a 2m 34s lap during the MSF Round 2 racing last month on street tyres, and looking at the data our target of 2m 29s should be achievable on semi-slick tyres,” exclaimed Alif.

Unfortunately, Alif’s much-awaited debut of his famed and highly-tuned Mitsubishi Evo ‘Blue Arrow’ which he last campaigned to a second place position back at the World Time Attack event in 2012 will not be able to make it as it requires some serious changes after its last test session in Sepang Circuit last month. Said Alif: “We’re disappointed not to be able to make it this round as we’re hoping to set a new Sepang Circuit lap record for street-based saloon cars, but we’ll definitely be there for the final in December!”

MegaLAP Time Attack isn’t all about top-level cars: there’s also a category for vehicles with engine capacities not exceeding 1600cc, which is expected to be hotly contested with target laptimes to dip below 2m 40s; as well as a category for Automatic transmission and CVT cars below 2000cc. The variety of categories ensures that there should be a chance for almost any car to participate and enjoy themselves at the event, as an entry-level motorsports activity in Malaysia Speed Festival.

To top it off, there will be a special Retro Havoc vehicle gathering and barbeque taking place in the paddock that will run from the afternoon till night. Retro Havoc is one of Malaysia’s biggest custom car shows, and is a platform to showcase retro cars, as well as unique and out-of-this-world custom work from Malaysia as well as those from neighbouring countries.

Participants registration for MSF MegaLAP Time Attack is open and can be done online at Spectator access is RM 20.00 on event day, with the Retro Havoc Gathering and BBQ starting at RM 30.00 per person.
